In February 2025, Switzerland's retail sales experienced a 1.6% increase compared to the same month the previous year, marking a slowdown from the revised 2.9% growth observed in January. This represents the most modest expansion in retail trade since November 2024. The slower growth is attributed to reduced sales momentum in sectors such as food, beverages, and tobacco, which grew by only 0.5% compared to January's 1.1%. Non-food products also saw diminished performance, registering a 2% increase against the previous 4.9%, with significant deceleration in categories like information and communication equipment (11.3% growth compared to 15.1%) and other goods (2.5% vs. 9.4%). In contrast, service station sales experienced a strong recovery, jumping to a 3.9% increase from a previous decline of 3.2%. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the retail trade saw a month-on-month decrease of 0.7% in February, contrasting with the upwardly revised 0.7% rise recorded in January.
