In August 2025, Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 4.2%, matching both the previous month's figure and market expectations. Within this group, those seeking part-time positions fell by 3,600 to reach 204,400, while those pursuing full-time opportunities increased by 3,000, bringing the total to 443,000. In contrast, employment numbers saw an unexpected decrease of 5,400, reducing the workforce to 14.63 million. This outcome fell short of the anticipated 22,000 increase, following a revised rise of 26,500 in July and marking the first downturn in three months. Full-time employment dropped by 40,900 to 10.08 million, whereas part-time employment rose by 35,500 to 4.55 million. The participation rate dipped to 66.8%, slightly below the market's projection of 67, reaching its lowest point since March. The underemployment rate slightly decreased from 5.8% to 5.7%. Furthermore, total monthly hours worked across all jobs decreased by 8 million, totaling 1,977 million.
