Dutch Jobless Rate Rises in August

In August 2025, the Netherlands experienced a slight rise in its seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, reaching 3.9%, an increase from the 3.8% that had persisted for the preceding four months. This figure also represents the highest unemployment rate since March, with the number of unemployed individuals rising by 13,000 from the previous month to a total of 401,000. Conversely, employment experienced a slight decline, with the number of employed individuals decreasing by 1,000 to 9.839 million. Additionally, the labor force participation rate showed a marginal increase, climbing to 76.3% from 76.2% in July. During the same timeframe, unemployment benefits slightly decreased by 200, bringing the total to 187,400. When compared to the same period in 2024, the unemployment rate noted a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from the 3.7% recorded in August of the previous year.
