Sri Lanka Current Account Surplus Widens in Q2 2025

In the second quarter of 2025, Sri Lanka's current account surplus expanded to $501 million, up from $421 million during the same quarter the previous year. This growth was primarily attributed to an increase in the services surplus, which rose to $839 million from $751 million, and a significant rise in the secondary income surplus, climbing to $1.891 billion from $1.569 billion. At the same time, the primary income deficit decreased to $500 million from $578 million. However, these positive developments were partly counterbalanced by an increase in the goods deficit, which widened to $1.73 billion from $1.321 billion in the second quarter of 2024.
