Paris CAC 40 Hits Highest Since March

The Paris CAC 40 index experienced a 0.2% increase, reaching approximately 8,070, a level not seen since late March. This rise was primarily driven by gains in banking stocks. Investor sentiment improved following a report from the Financial Times indicating that the European Union might lift sanctions related to assets associated with Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska as part of a compensation arrangement for Austrian bank Raiffeisen. This news resulted in BNP Paribas advancing by 1.3%, Societe Generale by 1.2%, and Credit Agricole by 0.8%.

In other market movements, Legrand saw a 0.8% increase after it announced the acquisition of Avtron Power Solutions, aiming to broaden its presence in the data center sector. Conversely, Saint-Gobain's shares fell by 0.3% after it agreed to sell its Brazilian retail subsidiary, Tumelero, to GG10. This transaction is anticipated to be finalized by the end of 2025, subject to regulatory approval.

For the week, the CAC 40 is poised to achieve a gain of over 2%, spurred by lower-than-expected employment data from the United States, which has enhanced expectations for a potential interest rate reduction by the Federal Reserve later this month.
