In September 2025, Australia saw a significant increase in the seasonally adjusted number of total dwelling approvals, rising by 12% from the previous month to 17,019 units. This rebound followed a revised decline of 3.6% in August and surpassed market predictions of a 5.5% increase, according to preliminary data. Approvals for private sector dwellings, excluding houses, surged by 26.0% after a 3.8% decrease in August. Simultaneously, approvals for private sector houses experienced a 4% rise, recovering from a 1% drop the previous month. Breaking it down by state, there were notable increases in Victoria (41.3%), New South Wales (30.4%), and Tasmania (11.7%), whereas Queensland (-11.3%), Western Australia (-5.1%), and South Australia (-0.9%) experienced declines. On an annual basis, total dwelling approvals have increased by 15%.
