Seychelles Inflation Rate Drops Most in Almost 2 Years

In December 2025, Seychelles experienced a notable shift in its economic landscape with the annual inflation rate decreasing to 0.22%, following a slight 0.02% increase in November. This marks the first reduction in consumer prices observed in nine months, reaching the lowest point since February 2024. The decline was driven primarily by a significant drop in the cost of fish, which fell by 6.72% compared to a decline of 0.95% in November, as well as a decrease in other food items excluding fish, which went down by 0.95% following a previous increase of 2.24%. Prices of non-food products saw a milder reduction of 0.01% compared to a 0.29% decrease previously.

In the non-food sector, the rate of price increase slowed for miscellaneous goods and services, which rose by 1.14% compared to 1.52% before. Costs for clothing and footwear declined, recording a 0.61% drop compared to a prior rise of 0.33%, while prices for recreation and culture saw a slightly reduced decrease, at 5.45% down from 5.42%.

Conversely, there was an uptick in prices for alcoholic beverages, which increased by 4.35% up from 3%, transport costs which rose by 2.28% compared to the previous 1.27%, and health services which saw a rise of 1.62% from 1%. The rate of deflation also slowed in sectors like furniture and household equipment, declining by 1.38% compared to a 1.66% drop earlier, and housing and utilities, which fell by 2.24% compared to 2.26%.

On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices experienced a modest increase of 0.09% in December, down from a 0.24% rise in the previous month.
