Bangladesh Inflation Rate Hits 5-Month High

In December 2025, the annual inflation rate in Bangladesh climbed to 8.49%, up from 8.29% the previous month, marking the highest level since July of the same year. Price increases were notably more pronounced in the categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose by 7.71% compared to November’s 7.36%. Similarly, housing and utilities saw a rise from 7.62% to 7.97%, while alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics edged up slightly to 12.14% from 12.1%. There was also noticeable acceleration in furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance, which increased to 7.56% from 7.46%, alongside communication (rising to 8.64% from 8.49%), recreation and culture (8.41% from 8.29%), and miscellaneous goods and services, which surged to 19.7% from 18.54%.

Conversely, the costs in some areas showed a decline. Transport costs eased to 7.28% from 7.38%, while clothing and footwear decreased to 12.11% from 12.43%. Health expenses moderated to 3.87% from 4.05%, education costs fell to 7.61% from 8.42%, and expenses associated with restaurants and hotels dropped to 9.37% from 10.37%.

On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices experienced a decrease of 0.84%, following a 0.39% decline in November 2025.
