In October 2025, the issuance of US building permits experienced a slight decline of 0.3%, reaching a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.411 million. This figure closely aligns with the preliminary estimate of 1.412 million and is marginally lower than the 1.415 million recorded in September. Permits for single-family homes decreased by 0.2% to 878,000, while permits for multi-unit buildings with five or more units also saw a 0.2% reduction, totaling 478,000. Regionally, the South and Midwest experienced permit declines of 3.6% (down to 729,000) and 2.5% (down to 198,000) respectively. The Northeast remained stable at 147,000 permits, whereas the West saw a significant increase of 9.1%, rising to 337,000.
