Romania’s annual inflation rate slightly decreased to 9.7% in December 2025, down from 9.8% in the previous months, reaching its lowest level in five months. This decline was driven by a reduction in price growth for non-food items, which registered a decrease to 10.48% from 10.73% in November, and food products, which increased more slowly at 7.75% compared to 7.64%. However, service costs continued to rise, reaching 11% from 10.99%, with notable increases in areas such as clothing and footwear repairs (15.12%), medical care (13.59%), and hygiene and cosmetics (17.65%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.22%, a decline from the previous increase of 0.46%. Additionally, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HCIP) stayed constant at 8.6% year-on-year, with a slight monthly uptick of 0.23% in December.
