Eurozone Construction Output Falls 0.8% in December

In December 2025, construction output within the Eurozone experienced a year-on-year decline of 0.8%, marking a reversal from the upwardly revised growth of 1.9% seen in November. The downturn was chiefly attributed to a further contraction in building activities, which dropped by 3.5% compared to a decline of 2.6% previously. Additionally, the growth in civil engineering slowed to 0.4% from 3.3%, and specialized construction also saw a deceleration to 0.4% from 1.7%. Among the key economies, construction output continued to fall in France, where it decreased by 4.5% against a prior decrease of 1.3%, and in Spain, where it declined by 2.8% compared to a previous drop of 0.3%. Germany shifted to a decline of 0.3%, overturning its previous growth of 1.0%, while the Netherlands experienced a slower growth rate of 0.6% against 2.4%. On a month-to-month basis, construction output fell by 1.1% in December, a reversal from the revised growth of 1.7% recorded in the preceding month.
