EU Car Registrations Rise to Six-Month High

In December 2025, the European Union saw a 5.8% annual increase in passenger car registrations, reaching a six-month peak of 963,319 units, following a 2.1% rise in November. This marks the sixth consecutive month of growth, with two of the EU's four major markets experiencing increases. Specifically, registrations in Germany expanded by 9.7%, and Italy saw a 2.3% rise. However, Spain experienced a decline of 2.2%, and France witnessed a drop of 5.8%. In the battery electric vehicle (BEV) sector, registrations experienced a significant surge of 51.0%, driven by substantial increases in the Netherlands (80.1%), Germany (63.2%), Belgium (52.3%), France (42.5%), and Spain (26.8%). For the entirety of 2025, the total number of car registrations across the EU grew by 1.8% compared to 2024 figures. BEVs accounted for 1.9 million registrations, capturing 17.4% of the EU market, reflecting an increase from 13.6% in the year leading up to December 2024.
