Spain’s unemployment rate decreased to 9.93% in the fourth quarter of 2025, down from 10.45% in the previous quarter. This marks the lowest unemployment rate Spain has seen in 18 years, surpassing market predictions of 10.6%. Notably, this is the first instance since early 2008 that the unemployment rate has dipped below 10%. During this period, employment increased by 76,200, reaching a record high of 22.46 million, while the number of unemployed individuals reduced by 136,100 to 2.48 million. The overall labor force experienced a slight reduction, decreasing by 59,900 to 24.94 million. According to Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo, the private sector was responsible for creating 92% of the new jobs in 2025, reflecting a more robust and stable labor market. This improvement is attributed to higher-quality employment opportunities that bolster ongoing welfare growth.
