The Swedish economy saw a contraction of 0.6% in December 2025 compared to the previous month, according to preliminary estimates. This decline reverses the upwardly revised 0.5% growth observed in November and represents the most significant downturn since July. "After witnessing robust growth in November, the Swedish economic activity experienced a contraction at the year's end. This data indicates that the growth trend observed since the second quarter persisted throughout the rest of 2025, albeit at a more modest pace," noted Mattias Kain Wyatt, an economist at Statistics Sweden. Preliminary estimates for the entire year suggest an annual GDP growth of 1.4% for 2025. The fourth quarter saw a GDP increase of 0.2% compared to the prior quarter. On an annual basis, December's economy grew by 0.9%, the slowest growth rate since March, and a decrease from the previously revised 2.2% expansion in the prior period.
