In December 2025, Portugal witnessed a 3.1% year-over-year rise in retail sales, marking the most modest increase since April. This follows a revised 6.5% surge in November. The growth rate slowed for several categories: textiles, clothing, and footwear saw a rise of 5.6% compared to the previous 14.6%; computers, telecommunications equipment, and books increased by 4.4%, down from 10.3%; and pharmaceutical, medical, cosmetic, and personal care products grew by 9.4%, slightly less than the prior 9.9%. Furthermore, sales of fuel continued their decline, dropping by 0.3%. On the other hand, sales of household goods experienced a more significant increase at 4.4%, up from 2.7%. Month-over-month, retail sales experienced a 3.2% decline, the sharpest fall recorded since January 2022, following a revised 2.4% gain in November.
