Latvia Retail Sales Growth Eases Further

Retail sales in Latvia experienced a 0.8% increase year-on-year in December 2025, marking a deceleration from the revised 3.2% growth observed in the previous month. This represents the smallest increase since sales declined in May, with growth tempering across all major categories. Specifically, the growth in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco slowed to 0.2% from November's 0.8%, non-food products saw a decrease to 1.2% from 4.3%, and automotive fuel sales moderated to 0.6% from 4.3%. Within the non-food segment, notable slowdowns were registered in specialized store sales of information and communication equipment (which declined to 6.8% from 16.6%), as well as in textiles, carpets, rugs, wall and floor coverings, furniture, lighting equipment, and other household articles (slowing to 5.4% from 12.8%). The sale of watches, jewelry, and other new goods in specialized stores also saw a reduction, slipping to 5.9% from 10.6%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales declined by 0.8%, following a downward revision of November's figures to a 0.1% increase.
