DAX Suffers Worst Day in Over 4 Months

On Thursday, Frankfurt's DAX 40 index experienced a notable decline, ending approximately 2.1% lower at 24,309. This marked the most significant single-day drop since September 2025 and saw the index lagging behind its European counterparts. A substantial factor in the decline was the nearly 15% fall in heavyweight SAP, driven by weaker cloud sales and a conservative outlook for 2026, despite meeting fourth-quarter revenue expectations. Infineon Technologies also saw a downturn, with shares dropping 3.5%. Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank slipped 0.9% even after announcing strong fourth-quarter 2025 financial outcomes, highlighted by considerable year-over-year increases in pre-tax and net profit. However, its revenues did not meet forecasts. The bank is currently under investigation by the Federal Criminal Police, following raids on its Frankfurt and Berlin offices over money laundering suspicions. In contrast, Siemens appreciated by 2.4%, buoyed by Swiss peer ABB Ltd.'s record-breaking quarterly orders and improved profitability projections.
