Norway Retail Sales Slip in December

In December 2025, retail sales in Norway experienced a decline of 0.7% compared to the previous month, negating the robust, revised gain of 1.2% seen in November, which was a ten-month high. Notable decreases in sales were observed across several categories: non-specialized stores reported a drop of 0.5% following a 0.4% increase in November; food and beverages decreased by 1.4% compared to a 0.3% rise; ICT equipment fell by 3.7% after a previous increase of 1.7%; other household equipment saw a decline of 3.2% from an earlier 5.3% gain; and cultural/recreational goods dropped 2%, reversing a 0.2% improvement. Additionally, the trade in automotive fuel continued its downward trajectory, falling by 3.2%, following a 0.3% decrease. However, sales in other goods experienced a modest rise of 0.4%, recovering from a stagnant November. On an annual scale, retail activity saw a 3.2% increase in December 2025, a deceleration from the revised 5.1% growth in the prior month, marking the slowest growth pace since May.
