In January 2026, Austria's wholesale prices experienced a 0.4% increase compared to the same period last year, marking an acceleration from December's 0.1% rise. The month saw significant price hikes in categories such as coffee, tea, cocoa, and spices, which surged by 14.7%. Watches and jewelry followed closely, increasing by 13.4%, while waste and scrap materials rose by 13.3%. Additional noteworthy increases were observed in machinery and equipment, up 9.8%, flat glass at 6.9%, sugar and confections rising 6.5%, and both rough wood and products of primary wood processing, up 6.4%. Conversely, there were substantial decreases in the prices for other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products, which dropped by 13.2%. Grain, seeds, and animal feeds fell by 13.1%, motor spirit declined by 9.0%, and plastics and rubber in primary forms decreased by 8.9%. Hides and leather also saw a 5.0% decline. Month-over-month, there was a 0.7% uptick in wholesale prices in January, a recovery from the previous month's 0.7% decrease.
