Hang Seng Pares Gains at Finish

The Hang Seng Index rose 156 points, or 0.6%, to close at 27,183 on Tuesday, marking a second consecutive gain as most sectors advanced. Sentiment was buoyed by Wall Street, where the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended at a record high on Monday, ahead of key U.S. economic releases, including delayed nonfarm payrolls data.

In mainland China, equities also finished higher, underpinned by optimism over strong travel demand during the upcoming Lunar New Year period. Adding to the global backdrop, Politico reported that U.S. President Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing in April.

Earlier gains in Hong Kong were pared later in the session as investors turned cautious ahead of Wednesday’s release of China’s CPI and PPI figures and the start of the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday on February 15.

Among individual movers, Innovent Biologics climbed 5.0% after expressing confidence in achieving its 2027 revenue target of CNY 20 billion. JF SmartInvest Holdings surged 9.3% on the back of strong earnings forecasts, while Axera Semiconductor ended notably higher on its Hong Kong trading debut. In contrast, Zhaojin Mining dropped 6.3% following reports of a fatal accident at one of its gold mines.
