German Inflation Slips Below 2% as February CPI Eases Year-on-Year

Germany’s consumer price inflation edged lower in February 2026, with the year-on-year Consumer Price Index (CPI) reading softening to 1.9%, down from 2.1% in January 2026.

The figures, updated on 27 February 2026, show that price pressures continued to moderate at the start of the year. Both the current and previous readings are measured against the same month a year earlier, meaning February’s 1.9% reflects the change in prices compared with February of the prior year, while January’s 2.1% was calculated relative to January a year earlier.

The dip below the 2% mark places inflation slightly under the level often associated with price stability in advanced economies, signaling a further easing in upward price momentum across the German economy on an annual basis.
