Sensex Falls to Near 6-Month Lows

India’s BSE Sensex fell about 1.3% on Monday to close at 80,238.85, its lowest level since September 2025, marking a third consecutive session of losses. Sentiment deteriorated sharply after a spike in crude oil prices, driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East following renewed US and Israeli strikes on Iran over the weekend and Tehran’s retaliation. The heightened geopolitical risk deepened uncertainty over the economic outlook and prompted foreign outflows.

Selling was broad-based across sectors, with aviation stocks among the hardest hit; shares of IndiGo dropped 4.3%. Other major laggards included Larsen & Toubro, Eternal, Adani Ports, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, Reliance Industries, and Trent, which declined between 1.6% and 3.6%. In contrast, select defence names showed relative resilience, with Bharat Electronics advancing 1.2%.
