Danish Consumer Mood Weakens to 3-Month Low

Denmark’s consumer confidence index slipped to -13.8 in March 2026 from -13.1 in February, when it had reached its highest level in over a year. This was the weakest reading since December 2025.

Views on the overall economic situation worsened for both the present (falling to -22.6 from -20.7) and the coming year (down to -19.2 from -12.8). Households remained pessimistic about their current financial situation compared with a year earlier (-12.7 vs -12.4).

By contrast, expectations for household finances over the next 12 months turned slightly positive, improving to 0.8 from -0.8, and consumers were less negative about making major purchases (-15.5 vs -18.7).

Other survey components showed that consumers perceived slower price increases over the past year (29.4 vs 33.2), but inflation expectations for the year ahead picked up (23.5 vs 11.9). At the same time, worries about unemployment over the next 12 months intensified (17.9 vs 13.2).
