US mortgage demand showed a marginal improvement in the latest week but remained firmly in contraction, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) data released on 25 March 2026. MBA Mortgage Applications declined 10.5% week-over-week, compared with a sharper 10.9% drop in the prior week.

The data, which measure the week-over-week change in total mortgage application volume, indicate that while the pace of decline has eased slightly, overall activity is still under significant pressure compared with earlier weeks. The “previous” reading reflected the change in applications from two weeks ago to last week, while the “current” figure captures the shift from last week to this week, underscoring a continued soft patch in US mortgage activity despite the modest improvement in the headline number.
