Eurozone retail sales slipped 0.2% month-on-month in February 2026, after stagnating in January and in line with market expectations. Sales of food, drinks, and tobacco declined 0.5%, ending a two-month streak of gains, while sales of non-food products were unchanged following two consecutive monthly drops. By contrast, fuel sales rebounded, rising 0.7% and offsetting the 0.8% fall recorded in the previous month. Among the bloc’s largest economies, retail sales weakened in Germany (-0.6%), the Netherlands (-0.3%), and France (-0.1%), while remaining unchanged in Italy and Spain. On an annual basis, retail trade growth slowed to 1.7% in February from 2.1% in January, though it slightly outpaced the consensus forecast of 1.6%.
