Namibia Inflation Rates Slows for 5th Month

Namibia’s annual inflation rate eased to 2.1% in March 2026, down from 2.4% in February and marking the fifth consecutive month of deceleration. This was the lowest reading since July 2020. The slowdown in price growth was mainly driven by weaker inflation in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.9% vs 3.4% in February), hotels, cafés & restaurants (3.7% vs 4.8%), and a further decline in communication costs (-1.4% vs -1.6%). Transport prices also continued to fall (-1.7% vs -1.0%).

In response to the impact of Middle East tensions on domestic fuel costs and consumers, the Namibian government introduced a temporary fuel levy reduction, cutting levies by 50% for three months starting 1 April 2026. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.2% in March, following no change in the previous month.
