Industrial production in Slovakia fell by 2.9% year-on-year in February 2026, a sharper decline than the forecast 0.6% drop and a reversal of the 2.5% increase recorded in January. The downturn was broad-based, with 9 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors reporting annual decreases. The biggest drag came from the manufacture of transport equipment, which contracted by 7.3% after growing 3.9% in the previous month. Further negative contributions came from the production of basic metals (-5.0% vs +2.3% in January) and refined petroleum products (-26.6% vs +11.0%). These declines were partially offset by robust growth in the manufacture of chemicals (+13.8%) and in other manufacturing (+11.1%), while food production also increased by about 6.0%. On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, overall industrial output edged up by 0.3%.
