Offshore Yuan Snaps 6-Session Winning Streak

The offshore yuan weakened to around 6.83 per dollar on Monday, breaking a six-session winning streak, as the dollar advanced broadly following the collapse of US–Iran peace talks without a breakthrough. The face-to-face negotiations between the two delegations ended with both sides acknowledging that major differences persist. US Vice President JD Vance underscored the lack of progress, while Iranian officials voiced similar concerns.

In the wake of the talks, President Trump announced that the US Navy would begin blockading the Strait of Hormuz, heightening worries about potential disruptions to global energy supplies.

Domestically, investors are focused on a busy economic calendar this week. Key releases on the trade balance, first-quarter GDP growth, industrial production, retail sales, and the unemployment rate are expected to offer fresh signals on the economy’s current strength and future trajectory.
