U.S. Export Prices Accelerate in April, Posting 8.8% Year-on-Year Jump

The U.S. Export Price Index rose 8.8% year-over-year in April 2026, marking a notable acceleration from the 5.6% annual increase recorded in March 2026. The latest figures, updated on 14 May 2026, highlight strengthening price pressures on American exports compared with the same period a year earlier.

Measured on a year-over-year basis, the indicator shows that export prices are not only rising but doing so at a faster pace than in the prior month. In March, export prices were 5.6% higher than in March a year earlier; by April, that gap had widened to 8.8% compared with April a year before.

The pickup in the Export Price Index suggests growing pricing power for U.S. exporters or rising cost pressures being passed on to foreign buyers, factors that can influence trade balances, corporate margins, and global inflation dynamics. Investors and policymakers will be watching whether this acceleration continues in the coming months.
