TAIEX Muted on Profit-Taking in Choppy Session

The TAIEX slipped 39 points, or 0.1%, to 41,712 in Friday morning trade during a choppy session, reversing the previous session’s gains and pressured mainly by electronic technology and technology services shares. The pullback came as traders locked in profits after the index closed higher a day earlier and notched a record high last week on the back of a surge in tech names.

Technology services fell 1.4%, while electronic technology edged down 0.2%. Delta Electronics lost 1.6%, extending its 0.5% decline from the prior session. The broader index’s losses were partly contained by strength in TSMC, which represents more than 40% of the benchmark and was up 0.7%.

Further downside was limited by an overnight rally on Wall Street, driven by gains in AI-related stocks and optimism surrounding the US–China summit. Investors also weighed comments from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday, who reiterated that U.S. policy on Taiwan remains unchanged. Other notable early decliners included Wiwynn Corporation, down 2.6%, and V5 Technology, down 5.4%.
