FX.co ★ Finnish Jobless Rate Nears 11-Year High

Finland’s unemployment rate climbed to 11.6% in April 2026, up from 10.0% in the same month a year earlier, reaching its highest level since May 2015. The number of unemployed rose by 48,000 year-on-year to 336,000, including 199,000 men and 136,000 women.

By gender, the male unemployment rate increased to 13.3%, up 1.9 percentage points from a year earlier, while the female unemployment rate rose to 9.8%, an increase of 1.3 percentage points. Among young people aged 15–24, the unemployment rate also moved higher, reaching 28.0%, 0.8 percentage points above its level a year ago.

At the same time, total employment fell by 31,000 to 2.559 million, even as the labour force participation rate edged up to 69.5% from 69.1% a year earlier. For those aged 20–64, the employment rate declined to 74.7%, down from 76.2%.
