TAIEX Extends Record Run, Closes Up 0.5%

The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, rose 219 points, or 0.5%, to close at 45,557 on Tuesday, extending its gains to a third consecutive session. The advance was led primarily by finance, communication, consumer durables, electronic technology, and technology services shares.

The index notched another record high and remained above the 45,000 mark for a second straight session, as sustained optimism over AI-driven demand continued to bolster risk appetite. Sentiment was further supported by Friday’s rally on Wall Street, where AI-related stocks saw a renewed upswing.

Electronic technology stocks added 0.4%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) — the world’s largest contract chipmaker and a heavyweight that represents more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization — gained 1.1%, rebounding after finishing flat on Monday. Hon Hai Precision Industry also advanced, climbing 2.7%.

Financial shares outperformed, rising 2.2%. Within the sector, Fubon Financial Holding increased 2.7%, while Cathay Financial Holding and CTBC Financial Holding gained 1.1% and 3.2%, respectively.
