Georgia Inflation Rate Slows in May

Georgia’s annual inflation rate slowed to 5.7% in May 2026, down from 5.9% in April. Despite the slight moderation in the headline figure, price growth accelerated in several categories: transport (15.1% vs. 10.3% in April), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.2% vs. 6.5%), and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (7.0% vs. 6.5%). Inflation also inched up for clothing and footwear (3.0% vs. 2.9%), health (5.1% vs. 4.9%), and restaurants and hotels (7.6% vs. 7.5%), while education costs continued to rise at a steady rate of 2.4%.

In contrast, inflation eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.2% vs. 7.5%) and for miscellaneous goods and services (8.0% vs. 9.0%). Deflation persisted in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-1.3% vs. -2.4%), communication (-6.4% vs. -4.0%), and recreation and culture (-0.1% vs. -0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices declined by 0.3% in May, reversing a 1.7% increase in the previous month.
