FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index at Over 1-Month Low

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks charter rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, fell for a seventh consecutive session on Monday, declining about 2.2% to 2,916 points—its lowest level since May 5—under pressure from weakness in the larger vessel classes.

The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, dropped 3.6% to 4,719 points, while the panamax index, reflecting rates for vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, slipped 18 points to 2,218 points. In contrast, the supramax index edged up 8 points to 1,596 points.
