New Zealand’s annual food inflation rate quickened to 3.2% in May 2026, up from April’s 14-month low of 2.6%, marking the first acceleration in three months. The pickup was largely driven by higher prices for meat, poultry, and fish, as well as fruit and vegetables and grocery items. On a monthly basis, food prices increased 1.0% in May after remaining unchanged in April.
