Austria’s HICP Inflation Nearly Stalls in May, Slowing to 0.1% Month-on-Month

Austria’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) showed a marked loss of momentum in May, with month-on-month growth easing to 0.1% from 0.5% previously. Both the prior reading and the latest figure relate to May 2026, highlighting a sharp deceleration in price growth over the month when compared with the previous month’s dynamics.

On a month-over-month basis, the latest “actual” figure of 0.1% reflects how prices in May changed relative to April, while the earlier 0.5% reading captured the change in the previous month versus its predecessor. The updated data, released on 17 June 2026, point to a cooling in short-term inflation pressures as measured by the HICP, a key gauge for comparing price trends across the euro area.
