Ghana’s Producer Inflation Surges to 5.8% in May, More Than Doubling April Pace

Ghana’s Producer Price Index (PPI) accelerated sharply in May 2026, with year-over-year producer inflation rising to 5.80%, up from 2.70% in April 2026. The latest data, updated on 17 June 2026, indicate a significant strengthening of cost pressures at the producer level compared with a year earlier.

Both readings compare price changes for each month against the same month one year before. The previous figure of 2.70% for April reflected a relatively moderate increase in producer prices versus April of the prior year, while May’s 5.80% print shows that the pace of producer-level inflation has more than doubled in the space of a month on this year-over-year basis.

The stronger PPI reading may signal building pipeline inflation pressures for Ghana’s economy, as higher production costs can feed into consumer prices over time. Market participants and policymakers are likely to monitor upcoming releases closely to assess whether this uptick marks the beginning of a more persistent inflation trend at the producer level.
