Eurozone Current Account Surplus Shrinks in April

The Eurozone’s current account surplus narrowed to €14.88 billion in April 2026, from €20.84 billion a year earlier. The decline was mainly due to a sharp contraction in the goods surplus, which fell to €14.25 billion—its lowest level since April 2023—compared with €25.79 billion in April 2025. In contrast, the services surplus widened to €15.55 billion from €11.07 billion, the primary income deficit narrowed to €1.04 billion from €1.91 billion, and the secondary income deficit edged down to €13.88 billion from €14.10 billion. Over the first four months of 2026, the current account surplus came to €75.86 billion, down from €81.64 billion in the same period of 2025.
