Ireland Wholesale Prices Rise for Second Month

Wholesale prices in Ireland rose by 1.6% year-on-year in May 2026, accelerating from a 1.4% increase in April and marking a second consecutive month of growth after fourteen months of contraction. Producer prices posted particularly strong gains in several categories, including chemicals and chemical products (up 11.9%), fabricated metal products excluding machinery and equipment (up 4.8%), other non‑metallic mineral products (up 4.5%), and basic metals (up 4.2%).

Food product prices increased by 1.3%, supported by an 8.9% rise in fish and fish products. Overall, prices for food products, beverages, and tobacco were 1% higher than a year earlier. Energy-related costs surged, with fuel prices up 37% and wholesale electricity prices jumping 33.1%.

Overall manufacturing prices climbed 1.6% year-on-year, while prices for construction products rose 3.1% over the same period. On a monthly basis, wholesale prices increased by 0.9% in May, following a 0.2% rise in April.
