Italy’s manufacturing confidence index rose to 88.4 in June 2026, up from 87.9 in each of the previous two months. Assessments of current production levels became slightly less negative (-16.6 vs. -16.7 in May), while views on finished goods inventories softened (1.3 vs. 3.0) and order books deteriorated further (-19.7 vs. -18.6).
Looking ahead, manufacturers’ production expectations improved (1.5 vs. 0.7), but employment expectations weakened further (-1.9 vs. -0.8). Inflation expectations eased to 22.5 from 25.3 in May, pointing to moderating cost pressures.
More broadly, overall business confidence strengthened (95.2 vs. 94.2), supported by firmer sentiment in construction (101.7 vs. 99.4) and retail trade (105.5 vs. 101.3), while confidence in market services edged up (97.2 vs. 96.8).
