Lithuania’s Retail Sales Growth Cools Sharply in May, Signaling Softer Consumer Momentum

Lithuania’s retail sector lost steam in May 2026, with month-on-month sales growth slowing to 2.2%, down from a robust 5.3% in April. The latest figures, updated on 29 June 2026, point to a notable moderation in consumer activity after a strong start to the second quarter.

The data show that while retail sales are still expanding, the pace has eased considerably compared with the previous month’s surge. In April 2026, retail sales had climbed 5.3% versus March, whereas May’s 2.2% gain reflects a more measured increase in household spending.

On a month-over-month comparison basis, the shift suggests that some of the earlier momentum in Lithuania’s consumer-driven growth may be normalizing, as May’s performance builds on, but does not match, April’s sharp rise in retail activity.
