Germany’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 6.3% in June 2026. The number of unemployed unexpectedly fell by 1,000 to 2.984 million, keeping the total below the 3 million mark. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment declined by 15,000 to 2.94 million.
Andrea Nahles, head of the Federal Employment Agency, noted that the labor market has shown little overall change: unemployment has edged down only slightly, while employment subject to social security contributions continues to trend lower. She warned that unemployment is likely to rise in the coming months, as many companies have so far postponed staffing adjustments in response to geopolitical shocks, including the conflict involving Iran.
Job vacancies reached 648,000 in June, an increase of 16,000 compared with the same month a year earlier.
