Austria’s Harmonised Inflation Cools to 3.1% in June, Extending Disinflation Trend

Austria’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) eased to 3.1% year-on-year in June 2026, down from 3.7% in May 2026, according to data updated on 1 July 2026. The figure, calculated on a harmonised basis to allow comparison across the euro area, confirms a further moderation in inflationary pressures in the Austrian economy.

The June reading measures price growth relative to June a year earlier, while the May figure compared prices to May of the previous year. The step down from 3.7% to 3.1% suggests that the disinflation process is continuing, with annual price increases slowing compared with the same months in the prior year.

With Austria’s HICP moving lower on a year-over-year basis, the data add to evidence that inflation in the country is gradually coming under control, potentially easing pressure on household budgets and informing future monetary policy discussions at the euro-area level.
