Austria Inflation Rate Eases to 3-Month Low

Austria’s annual inflation rate eased to 3.2% in June 2026, down from 3.7% in May, according to preliminary estimates. This was the lowest rate since March and was largely driven by a marked slowdown in energy price increases, with energy inflation decelerating to 5.4% from 9.8% in the previous month, as fuel and heating oil exerted significantly less upward pressure on prices.

Inflation also eased in other major categories. Price growth for food, alcohol, and tobacco slowed to 1.5% from 2.2%, while inflation for industrial goods edged down to 1.1% from 1.3%. By contrast, services remained the primary driver of overall inflation, with service prices rising by 4.4%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were unchanged in June, following a 0.1% increase in May. Meanwhile, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) showed an annual inflation rate of 3.1% and a 0.3% decline compared with the previous month.
