U.S. Private Hiring Cools in June as ADP Payroll Growth Slips to 98K

Private sector job creation in the United States slowed in June, according to the latest ADP Nonfarm Employment Change data released on 1 July 2026. The indicator showed an increase of 98,000 jobs for June 2026, down from a revised 122,000 jobs added in May 2026.

The ADP report, which tracks changes in nonfarm private employment, suggests a moderation in hiring momentum as the summer begins. The decline from May’s level indicates that businesses may be exercising more caution in adding new positions compared with the previous month.

While the data covers only private employment and not the broader government sector, markets often watch the ADP figures closely as an early signal of underlying labor market conditions ahead of official government employment reports.
