France’s Private Sector Slump Eases as June Composite PMI Climbs to 47.2

France’s private sector showed signs of stabilisation in June, with the HCOB France Composite PMI edging up to 47.2, compared with 44.9 previously, according to data updated on 3 July 2026.

Although the index remains below the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, the move higher suggests that the pace of decline in overall business activity has slowed. The Composite PMI reading, which covers both manufacturing and services, had stood at 44.9 in June 2026 before this latest release, highlighting a softer downturn in the most recent assessment.

The improvement points to a tentative easing of pressure on the French economy, even as activity levels remain subdued. Market participants will now watch upcoming releases to see whether June’s uptick marks the start of a more sustained recovery in the second half of the year.
