Denmark’s manufacturing output contracted by 3.9% month-on-month in May 2026, deepening from an upwardly revised 1% decline in April. Production fell sharply in several categories, including textiles, clothing, and leather (-11.5% vs +2.1% in April), cement and concrete (-0.8% vs +3.4%), metal and metal products (-7.7% vs +4.8%), electrical equipment (-1.5% vs +2.3%), machinery (-8.2% vs +6.6%), engines, wind turbines, and pumps (-9.1% vs +10.5%), and other machinery (-7.1% vs +2.4%).

By contrast, output rebounded in a number of sectors: dairies (+0.9% vs -2% in April), bakeries and bread factories (+2.7% vs -5.8%), wood, paper, and printing (+1.3% vs -2.2%), rubber, plastic, and glass (+1.4% vs -0.7%), and furniture (+5.5% vs -0.2%). On a seasonally adjusted annual basis, overall manufacturing activity expanded by 6.4% in May, slowing from an upwardly revised 13.1% increase in the previous month.
