DAX Settles at New High

Frankfurt’s DAX 40 closed about 0.2% higher at 25,833 on Monday, marking a fresh record peak and extending the previous week’s rally. Sentiment was supported by lower oil prices and expectations of robust quarterly results, particularly from technology companies. At the same time, Germany’s cabinet approved the first draft of the 2027 budget, designed to reinvigorate the economy through higher investment and increased defense spending.

Among the standout movers, Thyssenkrupp surged more than 11% after reports that Canada had chosen its marine division to build 12 submarines under a contract worth over $100 billion. The news also lifted other defense stocks, including Rheinmetall (up 3.3%), Hensoldt (6.1%) and Renk (4.2%).

Additional notable gainers were Fresenius SE & Co (2%), Deutsche Börse (1.9%), Deutsche Telekom (1.5%), Airbus (1.4%) and Deutsche Bank (1.3%). On the downside, Bayer (-5.1%), Merck (-2.1%) and Symrise (-1.8%) were the session’s weakest performers.
