Canadian Consumer Sentiment Edges Higher in July, Thomson Reuters IPSOS PCSI Shows

Canadian consumer confidence improved slightly in July, according to the Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI), which inched up to 49.42 from 48.95 in June 2026. The latest reading, updated on 8 July 2026, reflects a modest month-over-month gain as measured against the previous month’s level.

The July figure suggests a gradual strengthening in Canadian sentiment, with the index moving further away from the sub-49 mark recorded in June. On a month-over-month basis, the “Actual” comparison captures this improvement from June to July, while the “Previous” comparison reflects how June’s reading of 48.95 had itself changed relative to May, offering a sequential view of consumer mood shifts.

While the increase is incremental, the upturn in the Thomson Reuters IPSOS PCSI indicates that Canadian consumers are entering the second half of 2026 with slightly more optimism than in the prior month, as measured by this composite gauge of sentiment.
