Slovakia Industrial Output Falls at Softer Pace

Industrial production in Slovakia fell by 2.0% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a 3.2% decline in April but still undershooting market expectations of a 0.3% decrease. This marked the fourth consecutive month of contraction, with output lower in 11 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors.

The manufacture of transport equipment, which continued to exert the strongest influence on overall production, recorded a smaller decline of 2.4% compared with a 5.4% drop in the previous month. In contrast, the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products accelerated sharply, rising 17.8% after a 4.6% increase in April.

Meanwhile, electricity and gas supply weakened further, with output down 3.7% after a 0.6% decline previously, and the manufacture of computer, electronic, and optical products swung into a steep downturn, falling 10.3% following a 4.3% gain in April.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production was flat. Over the first five months of 2026, industrial output was 1.3% lower than in the same period a year earlier.
